Vibegron(Gemtesa‌)

Vibegron is a prescription drug targeting the β3-adrenergic receptor. It was approved by the U.S. FDA in December 2020 for the treatment of overactive bladder in adults and should be used strictly under medical supervision.

Side Effects

Use in Special Populations

Pregnancy: It is currently unknown whether Vibegron may cause harm to an unborn baby; if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, consult your physician.

Lactation: It is currently unknown whether Vibegron passes into breast milk; if you are taking Vibegron, consult your physician about the best feeding method.

Daily Precautions

1. Inform patients that taking Vibegron may cause urinary retention. Advise patients that the risk of urinary retention may be increased if they are concurrently using muscarinic antagonist类药物 (anticholinergic agents) for the treatment of overactive bladder (OAB). Instruct patients to contact their healthcare provider if they experience symptoms consistent with urinary retention while taking Vibegron.

2. Inform patients that Vibegron tablets can be swallowed whole with water, or can be crushed and mixed with one tablespoon of applesauce, and then taken immediately with water.

3. Inform patients that they should inform their clinicians if they are receiving or planning to receive other concomitant treatments, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, dietary supplements, and herbal preparations, or if they have other coexisting medical conditions.
