Ivosidenib targets a specific gene mutation called IDH1, which may affect your bone marrow.

What are the indications for Ivosidenib?

The IDH1 mutation impairs the development of immature blood cells into healthy mature blood cells, which may lead to the symptoms of acute myeloid leukemia (AML).

1. It is indicated only for adults with the IDH1 mutation. Your doctor will test you for this gene.

2. It is used to treat AML in patients who have not responded to other therapies or for whom other therapies have stopped working.

3. It is also used to treat newly diagnosed adult AML patients aged 75 years or older who cannot receive certain chemotherapy regimens due to other health conditions.

4. In addition, it is used to treat cholangiocarcinoma that has progressed after treatment with other medications or spread to other parts of the body (metastatic).

5. It may also be used for unlisted purposes.

What tests are required during Ivosidenib treatment?

1. Blood tests are required before the start of treatment and during the treatment course. These tests are performed to check your blood cell counts and other substances in the blood, as well as to monitor the function of your liver and kidneys.

2. You will also need to undergo a cardiac test called an electrocardiogram (ECG). This test monitors the electrical activity of the heart, can detect changes in heart rate or rhythm, and informs your doctor of your cardiac function status.

3. An ECG should be performed once a week before starting Ivosidenib and within the subsequent 3 weeks.

4. After 3 weeks of Ivosidenib administration, some patients may need to undergo an ECG once a month. Your doctor will discuss this with you if necessary.

When should you contact your doctor?

Your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist will inform you of possible side effects. They will monitor your condition during treatment and perform tests during your follow-up visits. Contact your doctor as soon as possible if any of the following situations occur:

1. You experience severe side effects.

2. Your side effects show no improvement.

3. Your side effects are worsening.

4. Early intervention helps manage side effects more effectively.

5. Contact your doctor immediately if you develop signs of infection, including a body temperature of 37.5°C or higher, or lower than 36°C.

Not all side effects are listed here. If you experience any new symptoms that you believe may be related to the treatment, inform your doctor.

Please remember that you are unlikely to experience all these side effects, but you may have some of them at the same time.
